Czech Guitar Duo is the most famous and the longest playing ensemble of their kind on the Czech concert scene. Jana and Petr Bierhanzl have been performing the unique and beautiful sound of music for two guitars for more than three decade. They have developed perfect performing virtuosity and skills wich are highly esteemed and well received by both the audience and the critics.
Originality and discovery these are the main features of the professional development of this duo. They proved it in their selection of repertoire wich comprises the best duets of the world guitar literature together with their own transcriptions of Czech compositions (Adam Michna - Czech Lute, Frantisek Tuma - Partita, Antonin Dvorak - Sonatina or Puppets by Bohuslav Martinu), English renaissance lute music and Spanish flamenco. They recorded the first classical guitar´s videoclip (Windy And Warm) and the first Czech CD with recordings of a guitar duo (European Guitar Duets).
Czech Guitar Duo has realized more than 3 000 concerts in Czech and abroad (Spain, Germany, Poland, Austria, Lithuania, Algeria) and has participated in festivals (Czech Classic Guitar Days 1998, Saxon- Czech Music Festival 98, International Guitar Festival in Lithuania 2001, Internatoinal Guitar Days in Neuotting 2001 and others).
Czech Guitar Duo is also known from numerous radio and television shows, including live concert recorded by Lithuania TV in Vilnius, for Czech TV special recital called "Musical invitation" and many other apperaences (The Best of Classic, About the Music with the Music, Classic 98, etc.). Petr is also a professor at the Jaroslav Jezek´s Conservatory in Prague.They have published three CDs which show artistic development of the duo. The first one is representative and beside famous duets (by Carulli, Sor) brings also Czech music (Michna, Truhlar). Their second CD with English renaissance music comprises also first ever recordings of lute and virginal duets found in Dublin and Cambridge archives. The third CD of Czech Guitar Duo is fully devoted to flamenco that is the most attractive part of their repertoire and of which they are the sole ensemble playing it in Czech Republic.
